physio_logic physical therapy specializes in the analysis of movement. A gait analysis evaluates a runner’s (or walker’s) movement pattern in comparison to “normal”, or “more efficient” patterns. This allows the practitioner to look deeper into the possible cause of the injury, pain, or dysfunction, gaining insights not possible from a standard evaluation. This analysis is usually done with the assistance of videography, which can be reviewed in slow motion (down to one frame at a time), often revealing aberrant movement not detectable with the naked eye. This, in turn, helps the therapist dig even deeper and investigate possible causes, including joint limitations, gross or specific weaknesses, footwear problems, as well as other issues which may only require movement education/retraining.
After a detailed analysis and review with the patient, a plan can be made to address the issues uncovered, whether it be via education, strengthening, stretching, joint or soft tissue mobilization, taping bracing or etc. Often, changes in outdated or inappropriate (for the particular patient) footwear will be considered. physio_logic physical therapy works closely with numerous highly respected running, and other footwear businesses including Super Jock n Jill, Brooks Trailhead, and Sole Perfection. These relationships help us find the best possible footwear for the patient.
In some cases, over the counter (OTC) or custom orthotics may be helpful to the patient’s rehabilitation. We often start with OTC devices either as a solution to the problem, or as a trial which helps us determine whether or not investment in a custom device will be helpful.
Should it be determined that a custom device would be helpful, physio_logic physical therapy offers these services, in house. Physical therapist Phil Armiger, has over 20 years of experience in designing and implementing custom orthotic devices (see “Services”, “Custom Orthotics”).
